Aikido Glossary

These test requirements are more than just the techniques required to pass an exam. They can be used as a developmental format for practicing the physical, mental, and spiritual Aikido principles each technique teaches.

The scheduled test dates will be one week plus or minus the change of season i.e. March 21st, June 21st, September 21st and December 21st.

Pre-requisites: 150 training days and 9 months after 2nd kyu.

Suwari waza: any attack ikkyo - gokkyo omote & ura waza
Hanmi handachi: any technique

Shihonage: including demo of throwing 4 directions
Iriminage: including variations from shomen
Tanken dori

Jiyu waza

Weapons: 3 ken taijo ; 3 kumijo; l3 jo awase

SHODAN

Pre-requisites: Minimum one year consistent training since obtaining ikkyu.

Buki waza

Tachi dori: 5 from tsuki & 5 from shomen (live sword)
Jo dori: 5 techniques - alternate tsukikamae & kenkamae as well as left and right hanmi
Tanken dori: variations with live blade - any attack

Essay

Prior to the test, submit a short writing about an Aikido - related subject from your personal perspective.
